There must be something in the Essex water to produce such great electronic bands as the Prodigy and Basildon's favourite sons, Depeche Mode.
Formed in 1980 the band were part of the original synth wave of musicians in the late 70's and early 80's. The original line up included Vince Clarke, Andy Fletcher, Martin Gore and Dave Gahan. As we all know, Vince Clarke left in 1981 to form Yazoo and later Erasure. The classically trained Alan Wilder was brought in to replace him and became responsible for the band's sound until his departure in 1995 and is now a 3 piece.
