Celebrate the world’s largest surviving Victorian glasshouse with this bold Temperate House art print by Andy Tuohy. Designed in the 1860s by architect Decimus Burton, the cast-iron and glass structure was created to showcase plants from temperate regions across the globe. After a major five-year restoration, the Temperate House reopened in 2018, its classical ironwork and soaring nave refreshed for a new generation of visitors.
Kew Gardens itself began in 1759 under Princess Augusta and grew into a national botanic garden, later guided by figures such as Sir Joseph Banks. Today Kew’s science and conservation programmes safeguard rare and threatened plants; living collections in the Temperate House complement seed conservation led by Kew’s Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst.
