ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) are an English electronic band formed in Wirral, Merseyside in 1978. The classic line-up consists of co-founders Andy McCluskey (vocals, bass guitar) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards, vocals) OMD combined an experimental, minimalist ethos with pop sensibilities, becoming central figures in the late 1970s/early 1980s emergence of synth-pop.
In this image I have channelled the spirit of Tesla, the inventor of the alternating current, and without whom I wouldn't be writing this on a computer, with the lights switched on and a nice cosy central heating system keeping us warm. OMD have had an electrical thread running through their work in tracks such as the aptly name 'Electricity' and 'Tesla Girls'.
Also, channelled is Giles Gilbert Scott, the designer of the classic red K6 telephone box which OMD sang about in their classic tune 'Red Frame/White Light'.
